Ate there twice recently while visiting family in the area. Portions are large and food is tasty. We all had the rib steak one evening for dinner and it was excellent. It was served on a hot platter Ruth Chis style. A real value. The dinner rolls are very good. The vegetable sides are reminiscent of a Foster's Ale "salad" The dinner salads in the geographical area tend to have a little less preparation ( parts are not cut into as small of pieces) They have wonderful pies prepared by a local lady. Prices are extremely reasonable. If you are looking for trendy or upscale you will be disappointed. If you are looking for comfort foot this is your place.

Decent looking cafe, but the smokey eyed bus girl was in full panic mode when nearly all the tables were full. She told my wife who was holding my daughter she couldn't sit down because her boss would freak out at her if the table wasn't fully set. Terrible service, but the food was OK.

We always give restaurants two chances before we review (good bad or indifferent). The food here is GREAT, the staff is horrible. They are all amazingly friendly and pleasant, but the entire cafe seems to be ran with a bit of incompetence and disorder. A bit frustrating that there is always open tables, but a massive line outside. When the waitstaff gets to the list, they ask the opinions of the guest to which where they could fit parties. That dialogue should be kept to themselves. Again, good food but the staff seems a bit overwhelmed or inexperienced. As often as we visit red lodge, we'll probably come back since there are so few options and the the staff is friendly. But the owner needs to step up and organize this place better, hire dedicated bus boys and a dedicated host. The wait staff is overworked.

Best sourdough pancakes, ham to die for, great wait staff. Love it for breakfast. Been coming here for 40 years.

Large portions and the staff were excellent. I definitely look forward to stopping off here again next time I'm up this way.

Bad, bad, bad. We stopped in for lunch. 'Wait to be seated'' means exactly that. Everyone walks by, and not even a word. The food was not worth the wait. They advertised a $19 giant Chicken Fried Steak, so I figured CFS must be a house specialty. Wrong. It tasted like vegetable oil. I was hungry, so I ate about a third. My wife ordered the hot turkey sandwich. Lunch meat on plain white bread with canned gravy. We've been touring Montana for the past few weeks. This is the worst meal we had. Most have been very good.

We visited when we came to Montana to visit my sister and her family. Our party of 11 had to wait for a little while, which is understandable. Our waitress set the tone as we were seated by looking at me and saying, "Didn't you eat already?" (It turns out that there was someone else in the restaurant wearing the same shirt.) Throughout our meal, she traded quips with us, taking them as well as she gave them. The best was when my son and nephew got into a fry-stealing fight, and my nephew attempted to defend his fries with a fork. The waitress walked up, whacked my nephew over the head with a menu, and deadpanned, "Quit forking around." She got an extra tip. I had the buffalo burger with potato salad. It was grilled nicely, with a good flavor, and a delightful multigrain bun. The potato salad was a little heavy on the onion, but I'm a potato salad snob. Two of my kids ordered pancakes. They were massive and, I'm told, delicious. If you want something in the way of an adult beverage, the lounge next door can serve you and put it on your bill. I had a Red Lodge Ale heffevisen that was tasty, but overall pretty average for $4. I would return for sure, and one day I'll have breakfast here.

It is what it is-- nothing more nothing less. Good old diner, friendly staff; but they're not going to be over accommodating. You might have to wave them over. Gargantuan portions- SPECTACULAR PANCAKES!!!! Good coffee Clean Sort of crowded but I take that as a good sign! Friends had eggs Benedict and said it was yummy! A great spot

I ate breakfast here 4 mornings straight while skiing this spring! Their portions are big enough to fill a hungry skier. Pancakes are awesome, huge and fluffy. My favorite meal was the local special which was, biscuits and gravy on top of hash browns and fried eggs. It is basically one big plate of my favorite breakfast foods. They waitresses are super friendly, fast, and helpful. You walk in, sit down and they pour your coffee right away without waiting for you to ask, and did I say you can get all the coffee you want for only $.99! That is a deal! Oh and better yet, they have the oldies rock and roll station playing on the radio! This is the best breakfast in town prefect way to start the mornings before a day on the slopes.

Boy did this hit the spot. We were really hungry and this looked like a great place to get some grub. The place was packed which was a great sign but meant we had to wait for 20 minutes to get a seat. If they would have had another person or two working they would have been much more efficient an likely wouldn't have hardly any wait. After getting seated we had a very good bloody marry. We ordered the eggs Benedict and chicken fried steak. Our food was quite prompt and our waitress was very quick and did a nice job of checking on us. Our food was GREAT! We really enjoyed our breakfast and would highly recommend the place to anyone looking for a good breakfast.

Loved this place! Good chicken wings. Bartender Kaitlyn was friendly and personable! Turkey Bacon Avacado sandwich was excellent! I would definitely hit this place again.

Plenty of seating but it still fills up. Service was experienced older ladys that know what the hell they are doing. (: Just what I wanted in a cafe breakfast. Had the special, prime rib (thin cut but good rub and very tender) hashbrowns (done right) 2 eggs (cooked right) and toast. Also a side of cream "white" gravy. Vase of water at ea table even though glasses are 4oz baby cups. Keep the coffee going for you and it was good. Menu items were a bit pricey but it's a mountain touristy town. Sucks for the locals. Especially since there was a tax that Montanans are not used to. I'd go again and try their Chicken Fried Steak next.

I had breakfast here a few years back. Very good meal. The gravy was good, and the buiscuits were huge and sort of a cross between a yeast roll and a biscuit.

Not very good and plus they put mayonnaise all over my sandwich. Grody.

Passed through on motorcycle trip and asked a local where a good breakfast was...he said the only place he eats breakfast was the red Lodge Cafe. Had the hamburger steak with eggs, hash browns, and toast. HUGE and tasty hand-patted steak. Great coffee with a cup that never got close to being empty. Waitresses were like having your mom serve you...polite, genuine, and just knew what they were doing. Hands down would eat here over any popular breakfast chain place any day.
